SCOPE
Front garden and entrance
The brief
A beautifully designed house with a front yard that did not match the architecture. Our clients wanted an entrance with presence, and a front garden that lived up to the home behind it. In a community where streetscapes are held to a high standard, the front garden is the home's handshake, and this one needed to live up to both the house and the street.
The design
We designed a custom block and aluminium panel fence with close attention to the small details, with a double sliding gate making a grand entrance into the property. Soft, contemporary planting sits behind it, with camellia hedges to catch the eye against the dark fence line. Every panel, pier and light fitting was documented before the build began, so the details that make the fence read as architecture rather than barrier were resolved on paper first.
The result
A cobblestone driveway, layered planting and carefully placed garden lighting complete the picture, so the garden shows itself off at any time of day or night. It's proof of how much a front garden can do for a home's presence, and its value, when the design is considered as carefully as the house behind it. Like every project, it started with an on-site consultation and a full set of construction drawings: fence elevations, setout, lighting positions and a planting plan the landscaper could price and build from without guesswork. Front gardens are also the fastest way to lift a home's street presence, which is why we treat them with the same care as a full backyard transformation.
Brookwater is one of the Ipswich region's most considered communities, and this project features on our landscape design in Ipswich page. To see how a garden like this comes together, read about our landscape design process.
The garden

Where it started
The same frontage before the project: a blank fence line waiting for a garden.
